The Windy city is the capital of NZ and is a great place to spend some time on your visit. It is located on the Southwestern tip of the North Island between the Cook Strait and the Rimutaka Range. With it's fantastic harbour and abundance of great cafe's, restaurants and bars, Wellington is a great place to relax. You'll find great nightlife, and plenty to do during the day. Home of the Te Papa museum, the national museum of NZ, you'll get in free and find everything about the history of the country. Wellington has a great vibe about it and a lot to offer people of all ages and tastes.

our opinion

We really think you should give Wellington at least 2 days of your trip, you will more than likely head through it as you move between the islands but this is a city worth more time than a brief stop as it has so much more to offer than some of the other cities like Auckland. It is called the Windy City for a good reason and you won't have to be there long before you realise that for yourself. If you're on a Working Holiday Visa this is a good spot to settle and look for work and if you're just on a brief visit make sure you get out there and explore the city, if you like Wellington as much as we do, you'll be hard pressed to leave.

A few Must Do's

  • Spend a few hours in the Te Papa Museum learning all about NZ culture

      • Take a trip on the Wellington Cable Car to the Botanic Gardens

          • Go stargazing at the famous Carter Observatory

a great place to stay

The best place for a stay in Wellington is the Nomads Capital. It has a great location near Cuba Street and offers free movies, tea and coffee and an evening meal every night. With an on-site bar with great food and drink deals you can't go wrong staying at Nomads.
