The adventure capital of the North Island, Taupo is situated on Lake Taupo, created by one of the Worlds largest ever volcanic eruptions, so big in fact that the clouds could be seen from China. Taupo is a tourist hotspot and is located in the centre of the North island, there is plenty to do all year round with watersports in the summer and skiing in the winter, Taupo is definately a place you need to visit if you're travelling in New Zealand.

With heaps of cafe's and bars it offers a great chance for work and a lively night out every night. During the day you can get involved in almost any activity you want, from skydiving to white water rafting, bungy to a round of golf. It is also the home to the Tongarriro crossing, an amazing day walk which is definately on our must do list. Taupo is one of the Gems of the North Island.

We loved our time in Taupo, we had some great nights out and with loads to do during the day, we seriously recommend giving yourself a few days here, during the summer it's an awesome spot for chilling by the lake and in winter time there is skiing options not far away. One of our best bits of NZ was the Tongarriro crossing, it's a full day walk but one of the most satisfying and rewarding experiences. We gurantee you'll love Taupo, a top spot in the North.
