The adventure capital of New Zealand, Queenstown has so much to offer everybody. Amazing alpine scenery and a buzzing nightlife every night of the week. With everything from jetboating , river rafting, Lord of the Rings tours, canyoning, paragliding, mountain biking, skydiving, frisbee golf, luging, flying foxes, segways and bungy jumps to name a few this is a must visit place for everyone venturing to New Zealand. It is the home of the original bungy jump site by AJ Hackett and now NZ's biggest bungy, The Nevis, at 134m it cannot be missed by any adrenaline junkie. With a winter ski season and summer adventures this is an all year round destination with an atmoshpere everyone will love.
Queenstown is in our opinion, the best place in New Zealand, it's a funky alternative town with so many qualities and offers everything you couuld possibly want. Amazing scenery, masses of activities, the best nightlife with heaps of mainstream bars, clubs and small unique hideaways to suit every taste. A great place to find work all year round, we promise you will not want to leave. Awesome during the Winter for skiing and snowboarding with an amazing opportunity to spend a working season. We really urge you to make a visit and spend as long as you can. It can be an expensive place but it is worth every penny. Remember to save a few extra days for this spot
Kawarua Jet - Spend an hour of thrills on the lake and Shotover river with the original Jetboat company. The trips run for an hour, everyhour and take you on a 43km ride on Lake Wakatipu, Kawarau River and Shotover River. Once you return you can make a visit to underwater world and feed some fish as well as purchasing the great photos from your trip, this is definately great value for money.
Shotover Jet - Known as 'The Worlds most exciting Jet Boat', the Shotover Jet gives you a trip through the Shotover River Canyons. An exhilerating ride next to cliff faces this company has thrilled over 2.5 million customers, this trip is not for the light-hearted. Flying through the canyons at 85kph your experienced driver will guarantee you have an awesome time. With 360 degeree spins and not stop excitement, you definately won't be disappointed.
Coronet Peak - This is New Zealands lowest and oldest ski field and also one of the most popular. With snow makers pumping out extra snow overnight, and great runs from beginner to advanced, Coronet has something for everyone. Hire equipment, take lessons or just go riding, with a great base building, this is an awesome place to visit. Floodlit night skiing on Friday and Saturday nights is a highlight and with live music and DJ's is an unbelievable experience.
The Remarkables - Sister mountain to Coronet, Remarks offers powder runs and beginner and advanced parks. Home to Burton
sponsored 'The Stash' it has an awesome line full of wooden and concrete features. You can also get involved with Tubing, flying
down a track in a giant rubber ring, the relaxed atmosphere at the Remarks makes it a must visit mountain.
Kawarua Bridge - This is the original Bungy site, where the sport was invented. An amazing place to make your first Bungy, 43m over the Kawarua river, you can choose to do a water touch or just stay dry, either way this is an awesome place to trust your life to elastic.
The Ledge - This is a Bungy with a real difference, with a waist harness, you can run and jump off the platform in any way tou like, flips spins, forwards or backwards, launch yourself from the runway 400m above Queenstown. During the Summer you have the option of taking a night Jump giving you an amazing views of the town and lake.
The Nevis - The Biggest Bungy in New Zealand, you will be faced with a 134m drop from the cable car to the Nevis River below, fall for 8.5 seconds before relasing your own feet. This is the scariest and best Bungy you will find in Austrilasia and is one for only the biggest adrenaline junkies.
The Ledge Sky Swing - Probably our favourite of the AJ Hackett products, this little gem has to be tried to be believed. It doesn't look like much but having to release yourself by pulling the pin you will drop vertically next to rock faces high above Queenstown, it is an amazing rush guaranteed to scare the bejeezers out of you. Highly recommended.
The Nevis Arc - Try the Worlds biggest swing, at 300m this is a whole different experience to your local park. Try upside town or with a friend, you won't believe the thrill from this ride, the newest of the 5 products. Have a look online or pop into the Bungy building in Queenstown for combo deals and packages. No trip to Queenstown is complete without jumping off something all your senses are telling you not to.
Canyon Swing - At 109m over the Shotover River, this is The Worlds biggest cliff jump. An unbelievable experience with 70 different Jump styles, you get a real experience with these guys, dropping vertically next to rock faces you'll worry you're not attached before relief kicks in and you start swinging. We loved the Canyon Swing and definately recommend you give it a go, it's awesome.
Segway on Q - This is another great trip so many people miss out on. Take a journey around Queenstown on one of these fantastic machines, with a short training session you should master the art of driving a Segway and then fly around the streets of Queenstown gardens on your Seg. This is honestly amazing fun and one of our favourites. It's definately an activity not to be missed out on.
Ziptrek Ecotours - Feel like you're flying as you zip between the trees up above Queenstown. Take the Skyline Gondola or walk up the hill and traverse across between purpose built platforms in the forest. With an enviromentally friendly aproach and heaps of information about sustainability you'll both learn about the enviroment and have a great time doing it.
Jag Air - Take a flight in an acrobatic Bi-Plane and feel your pants fill up. With a choice of trips you will experience +6 and -3 Gs at over 300 kph. Twist, turn and dive through the skies with awesome views of the Queenstown scenery. A more extravigant activity but well worth it, it's an experience you will never, ever forget.
Queenstown Rafting - Spend an action packed half day crashing through thw white water on the Shotover or Kawarau rivers. With trips suited to all ability levels this is something everyone should try. Thie adventure will keep you constanty thrilled as you guide the boat down up to Grade 5 rapids with your expert guide. Once you've finished you'll get a hot shower, Sauna and snack at the rafting base.
Lord of the Rings tour - Choose from several trips to visit some of the locations of scenes from the Trilogy. With expert guides and props from the fils, these tours are a must do for anyone who loves Lord of the Rings. Visit Middle Earth from Queenstown then go home and show your friends where you've been.
Frisbee Golf - Run out of money? Why not take a trip to the Queenstown Gardens and play a game of Frisbee golf. Just borrow a frisbee from your hostel or buy one from the dollar store and have a round with your mates. With specially made 'holes' at different par's and with heaps of natural traps and features, this is a great activity for and good for banter with your chums.
Skyline Gondola and Luge - Another must do while in Queenstown. Head to the top of the hill for amazing views of the town and lake. Once you're up there make sure you race on the Luge, we cannot imagine anyone not loving this, fly round the beginner and advanced track leaning into corners to stop you toppling over and take your mates on the inside line. Amazing fun.
Reavers Lodge is suitable for short or long term stays, the modern appartment style rooms deliver comfort and warmth, agreat location and great staff, this is perfect accomodation if you're planning to work in Queenstown. With room suitable for up to 3 people and a hot tub we highly recommend The Lodge. Close to town and great value. This is one of our favourites in the South!
For a short stay in you should definately try Nomads, this newly built flashpackers is in the heart of town and offers everything you would ever want from a hostel. It's super clean and has an awsome atmosphere, it's the coolest place in the Town. With it's own bar with cheap drinks make sure you book a stay at Nomads to make the most of your stay in the best place in New Zealand.
