The Bay of Plenty is an area on the northern coast of New Zealand. It runs from the Coromandel Peninsula to Cape Runaway iand has a coastline of around 260km. The region's main centre is Tauranga and has popular destinations in the form of Mount Maunganui and Papamoa. The region is also home to the heart of the kiwifruit industry in Te Puke, the art-loving town of Katikati, quiet coastal village of Waihi Beach, historic Maketu and the tourist activity centre of Paengaroa. With awesome scenery, plenty of water sports, cultural experiences, museums and walking tracks, the Bay of Plenty is a brilliant spot to make part of your trip.
The Bay of Plenty is a hidden gem on the traveller scene. Not all of the bus tours stop there but we definately recommend you make your way there for a few days at least. Mount Maunganui is a great town with beautiful beaches great for surfing. The famous Mount stands proud over the area and is well worth a hike up so see some great views of the region. Tauranga is the main town in the area and can be accessed from the Mount by bus or a cheap taxi and is excellent for a night out with a good mix of chilled bars and busy clubs. It's a great spot to find work in one of the cafes or bars and for those of you looking to do some fruit picking or packing, there is a big demand for backpackers in the kiwi fruit industry.
Rent a board for a few days, hit the beach and ride some great waves in Mt. Maunganui
